How to Use Scalp Tape to Hide Your Wig Cap at the Part
You have your wig on, the hair is styled, and then you notice it: the outline or texture of your wig cap peeking through the part. A little extra coverage underneath can help the part look more like scalp.
Our scalp tape is designed to help conceal your wig cap through a lace front wig. This guide walks you through the cap-placement method we recommend for HWC scalp tape.
The placement to remember: Put your wig cap on first, then apply scalp tape to the outside of the cap where your wig’s part will sit. Put the wig over it and check the coverage. If the cap still shows through one strip, layer a second strip on top of the first.
What does scalp tape help with?
Lace lets you see some of what is underneath. When a cap edge, cap texture, or contrast beneath the part catches your eye, scalp tape adds a more even-looking layer between the cap and the wig.
The aim is to improve the appearance of the part. You will still need your usual method of keeping your wig secure. This technique also does not change the wig’s lace size or create a new parting area where there is no lace.

- A mirror and good lighting.
- A comb or your fingers to make the part easy to see.

How to apply scalp tape, step by step
01 Decide where your part will sit
Start with the part you plan to wear. For a fixed-part wig, follow the existing part. If your wig allows you to change the part, settle on its position before placing the tape.
Briefly try the wig on over your cap to see where that line falls, then take the wig off while leaving the cap in place.
02 Smooth your wig cap
Arrange your own hair underneath as you normally would and smooth any folds in the cap around the parting area. Check that the cap feels comfortable and sits in the position you will wear it.
Keeping the cap’s position consistent makes it easier to line up the tape with your wig.
03 Place the strip on the cap
With your cap on, apply the tape’s adhesive side to the outside of the wig cap, along the area that will sit directly beneath the part. Smooth the strip gently so it lies flat.
For this method, the tape sits between the cap and the wig. Keep it within the area your wig will cover, rather than extending it onto your forehead.
04 Put on the wig and check alignment
Put your wig back on and look at the part in good lighting. Check that the tape is beneath the visible part and that its edges do not show outside the wig.
If the part and tape do not line up, take the wig off before adjusting. Check again after you have settled the wig into its normal wearing position.
05 Add a second layer only if needed
If one strip is correctly positioned but your cap still shows through it, place a second strip directly over the first, as recommended in our product instructions. Put your wig back on and compare the coverage.
If the problem is a fold or a misplaced strip, fix the position first. Extra tape will not correct a strip that is sitting beside the part.
Quick fixes for common problems
- The cap is still visible: Check that the strip covers the area beneath the part. If it does, try the second-layer option.
- The tape looks raised: Check for a folded cap or wrinkled tape underneath the wig.
- The part looks too light or too noticeable: Check the overall effect in daylight as well as indoor lighting. More coverage is not always a better visual match.
- You changed your part: Check the tape’s position again; a strip placed for a center part may not sit beneath a side part.

Should I stick it to my cap or directly to the lace?
For HWC scalp tape, follow the cap-placement method above. You may see other tutorials that place tape on the underside of a wig’s lace. That is a different application method; this guide follows the instructions for our product.
Will this work with every wig?
This technique is intended for a visible lace part where the cap underneath is showing through. A wig with an opaque top or a covered part may not need this extra layer. Check your wig’s construction before deciding where to place it.
Do I need scalp tape every time I wear a wig?
No. It is an optional finishing step. If you already like how your part looks, you can leave your routine as it is.
How do I take it off?
Remove your wig and cap first. If you need to remove the tape from the cap, support the fabric and lift it slowly rather than pulling sharply. Follow any care instructions supplied with your tape and cap.
Try it with your usual part
Start with a smooth cap, place one strip beneath the part, and check the result with your wig on. Add a second layer only if the first does not give you enough coverage.
